As we all know, there’s a small matter of the FIFA World Cup in Russia later this month. The World Cup is by far the biggest sporting event in the world. Millions of football fans from all over the world will be visiting Russia for this event and the tournament, especially the final, will be followed by billions.

This gives a tremendous opportunity for exposure. To get a sense of how big an exposure it will be, there are only 10 million estimated Bitcoin users currently. The World Cup is expected to attract millions of fans from around the world to Russia.

The Final of the FIFA World Cup takes place at the Luzhniki Stadium, national stadium of Russia. Billboards in the vicinity can be purchased for a minimum period of 4 weeks or 6 weeks.

Why Promote Bitcoin?

In 2009, Satoshi gave an amazing gift to the common man which is the power of control over money. For the first time in history of mankind, we have a form of money which does not require us to trust anybody, yet all transactions are transparent, immutable and recorded by every one of us without relying on any one of us for the ultimate truth.

Recently, we have seen so many altcoins emerge but all of them are centralized scams in some form or other. These are basically attempts by various individuals to control money in the same old way Bitcoin was created to free us from. They’re trying to capitalize on the buzz of blockchain but all of them abandon the basic principles of blockchain.

Bitcoin remains the only blockchain which is trustless, permissionless and leaderless where all peers can be equal. This is what makes Bitcoin immune to attacks. To attack something requires a target. Bitcoin has no single target – not a website, not a forum, not a company or group, not even a face.

The things which make Bitcoin so awesome is also what makes it difficult to promote Bitcoin. All marketing and promotion efforts must be collective efforts by all of us together.

Cost Summary

The tournament lasts for close to 5 weeks, so we decided to purchase billboard for 6 weeks until the week of the final for maximum exposure. Below you can find the design of the billboard and illustration of scale.

The cost for 6 weeks is approximately 7 BTC at current rate, higher than usual due to the World Cup. We have already raised 2.5 BTC locally. So we are only looking to our Bitcoin brethren around the world to help raise 4.5 BTC. If we don’t raise enough to cover the cost for 6 weeks, we plan to negotiate purchase for a shorter period.

The first 2 weeks is already paid for and we have 2 more weeks to pay the remainder. We are very confident and optimistic about our great, passionate community being able to raise enough to cover the cost of 6 weeks.

As viewed in the picture above, the billboard will be featured along the ‘Third Ring Rd’ adjacent to the Luzhniki Metro and also the road leading in and out of the stadium concourse. It is one of the arteries of Moskva roadway.

Design Concept

We had been brainstorming various ideas for the billboard for a few months. After much deliberation, we felt that rather than make tacky honey badger analogies or use some esoteric crypto-speak, it was necessary to consider the target audience and create a powerful message which can be understood by the average person even with basic English reading ability.

The result was a message which will resonate with billions of passionate fans of the global game but also pique the curiosity of those who have never heard of Bitcoin until now.  The background represents a decentralized network of nodes. We hope everyone likes it and we are super excited to be able to contribute in a positive way and hope to engage in more ways to promote the awesomeness of Bitcoin.
